Dratini has always had a soft spot in collectors' hearts, that little blue noodle of a dragon that everyone knew would evolve into something much bigger, and this 1st Edition #53 printing from the 2000 Team Rocket set is a nice piece of that early Pokemon story. It's a common card illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno, so it was never meant to be rare, but the 1st edition stamp and the age of the set still give it a real identity for anyone chasing Dratini value from that era. If you're wondering what your copy is actually worth right now, the short answer is: more in top grade than you'd probably guess for a common.

The collector's take on Dratini

Is Dratini worth grading?

Here's the honest math on Dratini price across grades: raw or ungraded copies sit around $4, a Grade 9 climbs to $32, and a PSA 10 gem mint copy is valued at $190, which works out to roughly 47.4 times what the raw card sells for. That jump looks tempting, but getting a common card from 2000 into gem mint condition is genuinely tough, decades of storage, handling, and factory printing quirks all work against a perfect PSA 10. Grading fees and turnaround time are real costs, and if your copy comes back a 9 instead of a 10, you're looking at $32 rather than $190, so it only makes sense to submit a card you're already confident is sharp: clean edges, centered print, no surface wear under a light.

How rare is Dratini?

Dratini sits in the common rarity tier of Team Rocket, which means it was printed in volume and was never scarce on the shelf back in 2000. Its real scarcity today comes from survival, not print numbers, since two decades of trading, sleeving mishaps, and casual play have thinned out the pool of copies that are still sharp enough to grade well. That's really what drives the gap between a $4 raw card and a $190 PSA 10, it's less about how many were made and more about how few made it through the years untouched.

Where can you pull Dratini?

PackSpy has tracked 103 real pulls of this Dratini across sites including mnstr, courtyard, collector-crypt, and packs, with the biggest recorded pull value hitting $185, which is a nice reminder that even a common card can land in a high-value rip if the grade lines up. We've seen it turn up in Pack 5, Pokemon Pro Pack, Pokemon Starter Pack, Legendary Pokemon Gacha Pack, and Puffer's Packs, so it's not a card you're likely to plan around, but it does show up across a decent spread of pack types. Worth saying plainly: opening packs for this specific card is a gamble and most rips won't beat what you'd pay buying a graded copy outright on the secondary market, but the data at least tells you where it's genuinely been pulled rather than guessing.

Questions people ask

How much is Dratini worth?+

A raw, ungraded Dratini from Team Rocket 1st Edition is valued around $4. Grade it and get a 9, and that rises to $32, while a PSA 10 gem mint copy is worth $190, so condition makes a huge difference for this particular card.

Is Dratini worth grading?+

It can be, if your copy already looks clean, since a PSA 10 sells for about 47.4 times the raw price. But grading costs and the real chance of landing a Grade 9 instead of a 10 mean it's only worth it when you're fairly confident in the card's condition going in.

Why is the Dratini 1st Edition #53 print worth more than the standard one?+

The 1st edition stamp marks it as part of the earliest print run of the Team Rocket set from 2000, which collectors value for its place in Pokemon card history. Even as a common card, that early printing status gives it a bit more weight and demand than later reprints of the same Dratini.
