Charizard needs no introduction, and this Reverse Holo #146 from the 2003 Skyridge set is one of the more quietly special versions out there. Skyridge was the last set of the original Wizards of the Coast era, illustrated here by Kouki Saitou, and that farewell timing plus the reverse holo treatment gives it a lot of collector pull. If you are digging into Charizard value right now, the short answer is that this card sits comfortably in the low five figures at the top grade, which tells you a lot about how it is regarded.

The collector's take on Charizard

Is Charizard worth grading?

So is it worth grading? A raw copy sits at $2,351, and a PSA 10 trades for $12,000, which works out to about 5.1 times the raw price. That is a real jump, and it is exactly why people send these off to grading companies. But here is the honest part: gem mint is genuinely hard to hit on a card like this, and Skyridge holos in particular can show print lines or edge wear that keep them out of that top slot. Grading costs money and takes time, and there is no guarantee your copy comes back a 10 rather than a 9, which is still solid at $5,774 but a noticeably smaller payday. If your copy already looks clean under a loupe, corners sharp, surface glossy, it is worth the shot. If it has visible wear, you might be better off enjoying it raw or selling it as is.

How rare is Charizard?

Across all grading companies combined, only 1,598 copies of this card have been graded, and of those, just 163 have earned a PSA 10. That is a fairly tight population for a card this well known, and it means gem mint copies are genuinely uncommon rather than just marketed that way. When a card this old and this desired has so few flawless survivors, it puts real pressure upward on price, which is a big part of why the PSA 10 figure sits so far above the raw and Grade 9 numbers.

Where can you pull Charizard?

This is where PackSpy's own tracking comes in handy, because we log real pulls across pack sites rather than just repeating price guide numbers. We have recorded this Charizard pulled once so far, showing up in phygitals through a pack called black-pack, with that pull valued at $2,721. That single data point tells its own story: this is not a card you should expect to open often. Realistically, most collectors who want this Skyridge Charizard end up buying it directly on the secondary market rather than chasing it through packs, and if you do decide to open packs hoping to land it, go in knowing that most rips do not come out ahead financially. It is a fun gamble, just not a strategy to rely on.

Questions people ask

How much is Charizard worth?+

A raw, ungraded copy of this Skyridge Reverse Holo #146 currently sits at $2,351. Once graded, the value climbs a lot: a Grade 9 goes for $5,774, and a PSA 10 reaches $12,000. Where your card lands in that range depends heavily on centering, surface, and edges.

Is Charizard worth grading?+

It can be, since a PSA 10 is worth about 5.1 times the raw price of $2,351, landing at $12,000. That said, only 163 out of 1,598 graded copies have hit that top grade, so gem mint is far from guaranteed. Grade it if your copy looks genuinely clean, otherwise the raw or Grade 9 route may make more sense.

Why is the Charizard Reverse Holo #146 print worth more than the standard one?+

Reverse holos flip the usual foil pattern so the border shines instead of the artwork, and Skyridge's version of that effect has always stood out to collectors as a distinct, harder to find variant within the set. Combined with Skyridge being the closing set of the original Wizards of the Coast era, that extra layer of scarcity and nostalgia is a big reason demand, and price, tends to run higher on this version.
