Charmander needs no introduction, it is the little orange lizard that got a whole generation into Pokemon in the first place, and this particular version comes from the Japanese Classic: Charizard set. If you have landed here trying to figure out Charmander value, the short answer is that it sits at $20 raw, but where it goes from there is the interesting part. It is not a rare chase card by design, but the numbers around it tell a fuller story than most people expect.

The collector's take on Charmander

Is Charmander worth grading?

So is Charmander worth grading? A PSA 10 sits at $106 against a raw price of $20, which works out to 5.3x once it comes back gem mint, and that is a real jump for a card most people think of as common. The catch is that gem mint is genuinely hard to hit consistently, corners and edges on a card like this get dinged easily, and grading costs money and time whether or not the card comes back a 10. A Grade 9 only brings $25, barely above raw, so the whole case for grading really hinges on pulling or buying a copy that is centered and clean enough to have a real shot at that top grade. If your copy already has soft corners or a scratch you can see under light, it is probably better loved and kept than sent off.

How rare is Charmander?

Across all grading companies combined, there are 4,207 graded copies of this Charmander on record, and of those, 3,401 have come back as PSA 10. That is a lot of gem mint copies relative to the total population, which tells you this card grades well when submitted, it is not one where a 10 feels like a lottery ticket. That said, population reports only count what has actually been sent in, so plenty of raw copies are still sitting in binders and bulk boxes untouched. The value here is not driven by scarcity at the top, it is driven by how affordable and available Charmander stays even in its best grade.

Where can you pull Charmander?

This is where PackSpy actually earns its keep, because we track real pulls across pack sites rather than just listing price guide numbers. Charmander has been pulled 200 or more times across tilt-rips, courtyard, collector-crypt, mnstr, and packs, so this is a card that shows up with real frequency if you are opening online. It has turned up in the Pokemon Dollar Pack, Pokémon Master Pack, Pokémon Starter Pack, Elite Pokémon Gacha Pack, and Rookie Pack, and the biggest recorded pull value for it sits at $369. That is a good reminder that pack odds swing wide, most rips will not land anywhere near that number, and opening packs is gambling no matter how familiar the card feels. If you just want a guaranteed Charmander, buying raw at $20 on the secondary market is the steadier route.

Questions people ask

How much is Charmander worth?+

A raw, ungraded Charmander from the Japanese Classic: Charizard set is valued at $20. That number moves quickly once grading enters the picture, with a Grade 9 at $25 and a PSA 10 reaching $106.

Is Charmander worth grading?+

It can be, since a PSA 10 sells for 5.3x the raw price, but that jump only pays off if your copy is clean enough to actually hit gem mint. With 3,401 of the 4,207 graded copies already sitting at PSA 10, the ceiling is reachable, just weigh the grading cost against a $20 raw card before you send it in.

How much is a PSA 10 Charmander worth?+

A PSA 10 Charmander from this set is valued at $106, well above the $20 raw price and the $25 a Grade 9 brings. It is a nice reward for a clean copy, though the biggest recorded pull for this card through PackSpy actually reached $369.
