The collector's take on Charizard ex
Is Charizard ex worth grading?
So is Charizard ex worth grading? The raw price sits at $35, and a PSA 10 comes in at $8,809, which works out to about 255.1x the ungraded price. That is a massive gap, and it is exactly why people send these off to get graded rather than sell them raw. But here is the honest part: gem mint is genuinely hard to hit on a card like this, corners and edges on Charizard ex show wear easily, and grading takes time, money, and a real chance you get back a 9 instead of a 10. A Grade 9 here is actually valued at $16,155, so even a near-perfect copy holds serious value, but nothing is guaranteed until the card is in the grader's hands. Weigh the grading fee and wait time against what your raw copy already looks like under good light before you commit.
How rare is Charizard ex?
Across all grading companies combined, there are 35,345 graded copies of Charizard ex on record, and of those, 9,915 have earned the top PSA 10 grade. That means gem mint copies make up a meaningful slice of the graded population, not some razor-thin sliver, but pulling a genuinely flawless copy straight from a pack is still the harder part of the equation. The population size tells you this card was opened and graded a lot, which keeps supply healthier than some ultra-scarce chase cards, and that steadiness is part of why the price has settled where it has rather than spiking wildly.
Where can you pull Charizard ex?
This is where PackSpy's own tracking comes in, because we record real pulls across pack opening sites, not just guide prices. Charizard ex has been logged 1 time in our data, coming out of a pack on lastpack, with that pull valued at $36. We have also seen it turn up in packs on explorer. It is not a card that shows up constantly in our feed, so if you are hoping to pull one yourself, treat it as a genuine long shot and know that most people who own this card bought it on the secondary market rather than ripped it from a pack. And a quick honest note: opening packs for value is gambling, most rips do not cover their cost, so chase it for the fun of it first.
