Kakuna is that in-between Pokemon everybody remembers from the Rising Rivals set, a 2009 common that's easy to overlook but oddly fun to track down. It won't headline anyone's collection, but if you're checking Kakuna value, the honest answer is that it's a low-cost card with a surprisingly wide gap between raw and gem mint copies. Midori Harada's artwork gives it a bit of charm even at common rarity, which is part of why collectors still ask what this card is worth.

The collector's take on Kakuna

Is Kakuna worth grading?

So is Kakuna worth grading? Raw, it sits at $1, and a PSA 10 brings $38, which works out to about 76.9 times the ungraded price. That sounds like a big jump, and it is, but you have to be realistic about what it costs to submit a card and how long grading takes, plus the fact that a common like this needs genuinely sharp corners and centering to land a gem mint grade. A Grade 9 comes in at $13, so even a near-perfect copy still pays out something, but the real money only shows up at that top grade, and hitting a 10 on a common from this era is not guaranteed just because the card looks nice in the binder.

How rare is Kakuna?

With only 4 graded copies recorded in total, Kakuna is not a card most people have bothered sending in, which makes sense for a common from 2009. That tiny population means there is not much of a track record to lean on, and every graded copy that does exist carries a bit more weight simply because so few have gone through the process. Scarcity at this level does not scream high value, but it does mean a clean PSA 10 stands out precisely because almost nobody else has one.

Where can you pull Kakuna?

PackSpy tracks real pulls across pack-opening sites, and as of now, we have not recorded Kakuna being pulled anywhere. That tells its own story: this is a common that mostly turns up loose in bulk or gets picked up individually on the secondary market rather than through a memorable live pack rip. If you're hoping to pull it yourself, know that opening packs is a gamble in general, most rips do not pay for themselves, and a card like Kakuna is the kind of quiet, low-value common that reminds you why chasing hits should be for fun first.

Questions people ask

How much is Kakuna worth?+

A raw, ungraded Kakuna from Rising Rivals is valued at $1. It's a common card, so the value stays modest unless you're looking at graded copies, where the price climbs noticeably at the top end.

Is Kakuna worth grading?+

It depends on the copy. A PSA 10 is worth $38 against a $1 raw card, roughly 76.9 times more, but with only 4 graded copies out there, gem mint is genuinely hard to hit, and grading costs and time should factor into your decision.

How much is a PSA 10 Kakuna worth?+

A PSA 10 Kakuna is valued at $38, compared to $13 for a Grade 9 and $1 for a raw copy. That top grade is where almost all the value in this card lives.
