Lapras is one of those cards that just makes people smile, that gentle giant floating across the water on Ken Sugimori's original art, and it's been doing that since the Fossil set landed back in 1999. As card #10 in that set with a Rare designation, it's held onto a soft spot in a lot of collections for over two decades. If you're here checking Lapras value, the short answer is that raw copies sit around $14, but the picture changes a lot once grading enters the conversation.

The collector's take on Lapras

Is Lapras worth grading?

Here's where it gets interesting: a raw Lapras sitting at $14 can turn into $3,834 in PSA 10 condition, which works out to about 265.7x the ungraded price. That's a real jump, and it's the kind of number that makes people want to send every copy they own off to get graded. But gem mint is called gem mint for a reason, it's genuinely hard to hit, especially on a card this old with the print quality and centering issues that Fossil-era cards are known for. A Grade 9 lands at $159, which is still a nice bump over raw but nowhere near the PSA 10 territory, so before you spend money on grading fees, take a hard look at your corners, centering and surface under good light. If it looks flawless to your eye, it might be worth the gamble. If you see soft corners or a hint of print line, you may be better off enjoying it raw or selling as-is.

How rare is Lapras?

Lapras carries a Rare rarity from the Fossil set, which itself came out in 1999 as one of the earlier expansions in the game's history. That alone puts it in a different tier than the common and uncommon cards from the same set, since Rares were printed in smaller numbers relative to the rest of the checklist. We don't have exact population counts to lean on here, but the value spread between raw, Grade 9 and PSA 10 tells its own story, that gap of over 265 times between raw and gem mint usually points to a card where true PSA 10 copies are genuinely scarce, even if plenty of played and lightly worn copies exist out there.

Where can you pull Lapras?

This is where PackSpy's tracking actually earns its keep, because we've recorded Lapras pulled 200 or more times across sites like collector-crypt, tilt-rips, courtyard, mnstr, packs and lastpack. That's real, live data, not a guess, and it tells us this card does show up when people rip packs online. The biggest recorded pull we've logged came in at $3,354, which lines up nicely with what a strong PSA 10 can fetch. We've seen it turn up in packs like the Elite Pokémon Gacha Pack, Pokemon Starter Pack, Pack 1 and the Starter Pokémon Gacha Pack, so if you're hoping to pull one yourself, those are the kinds of packs where it's been showing up. Just remember, opening packs is a gamble by nature, and most rips don't come close to covering what you spent, so go in treating it as fun first and profit second.
