Shelgon is the middle stage in one of Pokemon's more overlooked evolution lines, and this particular version comes from the Japanese Advent of Arceus set, released back in 2009. It is an Uncommon card illustrated by Atsuko Nishida, and while it will never be the flashiest card in a binder, that quiet charm is exactly why some collectors seek it out. If you are trying to pin down Shelgon value, the short answer is that it sits firmly in budget territory, but there is more to the story once you look at grading and scarcity.

The collector's take on Shelgon

Is Shelgon worth grading?

So is Shelgon worth grading? Right now a raw, ungraded copy sits at $3, and a Grade 9 comes in at $1, which tells you plainly that sending this one off to get slabbed is unlikely to make you money. Grading fees alone can eat up more than the card is worth, and that is before you factor in the wait time and the very real chance your copy comes back lower than gem mint. A PSA 10 value is not established here, so there is no confirmed high ceiling to chase either. Unless you are grading for the love of preserving the card, or you already suspect you have a flawless copy, this is one where keeping it raw makes the most financial sense.

How rare is Shelgon?

Only 2 graded copies of Shelgon exist across all grading services, which is a genuinely small number. That tells you most people who own this card have simply left it raw in a binder or a bulk box rather than sending it in, and it makes sense given the modest values involved. Low population numbers like this can sometimes hint at future scarcity value if collector interest in Advent of Arceus grows, but right now the population is small mostly because demand for grading it has been small too.

Where can you pull Shelgon?

We have tracked Shelgon being pulled 8 times across pack sites, all recorded at a site called courtyard, and it has shown up in the Wildcard Basic Pack. The biggest pull value we have recorded for it was $13, which is a nice reminder that even an Uncommon can occasionally land in a pack in a way that surprises you. That said, this is not a card people are chasing when they open packs, it is more of a pleasant bonus if it shows up. If you want a guaranteed Shelgon for your collection, buying raw on the secondary market is almost always the more reliable route than opening packs hoping to hit one, and it is worth remembering that pack opening in general is a gamble where most rips do not pay off.

Questions people ask

How much is Shelgon worth?+

A raw, ungraded Shelgon from Advent of Arceus is valued at $3. A Grade 9 copy is valued at $1, and there is currently no established PSA 10 value since so few have been graded. So for most collectors, this stays an affordable, low-stakes pickup rather than a big investment piece.

Is Shelgon worth grading?+

Based on the numbers, probably not, since a raw copy at $3 already outvalues a Grade 9 at $1, and grading fees would likely cost more than the card returns. With only 2 graded copies in existence and no confirmed PSA 10 price, there just is not a clear financial upside right now. It only makes sense if you are grading purely for preservation or personal satisfaction.

What set is Shelgon from?+

Shelgon #70 comes from the Japanese Advent of Arceus set, released in 2009. It is an Uncommon card illustrated by Atsuko Nishida, and it has been recorded showing up in the Wildcard Basic Pack.
