Underground Expedition is one of the quieter standouts from Celestial Storm, the 2018 set that gave Pokemon collectors a nice run of Ultra Rares to chase. Card #168, illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno, has that classic wide-format Trainer artwork that made this era so collectible. If you are here checking Underground Expedition value, the short answer is it sits around $38 raw, but there is a lot more worth knowing before you decide what to do with your copy.

The collector's take on Underground Expedition

Is Underground Expedition worth grading?

So is Underground Expedition worth grading? A raw copy runs about $38, and a PSA 10 sells for $262, which works out to roughly 6.9 times the ungraded price. That is a real jump, no question. But grading costs money and takes time, and there is always a chance your card comes back a 9 instead of a 10, where the price is $126, a solid bump but nowhere near the gem mint number. Look closely at your corners and centering before you send anything in. If it looks sharp under good light, grading can make sense. If you see soft edges or off-center printing, you might be better off keeping it raw or selling as is, since not every copy is going to hit that top grade.

How rare is Underground Expedition?

There are 510 total graded copies of Underground Expedition on record, and 290 of those came back PSA 10. That is a pretty healthy gem mint rate, more than half the graded population landed at the top. It tells you this card tends to come out of packs in decent shape, which is good news if you are hoping to grade one yourself, but it also means PSA 10 copies are not the rarest thing in the world within this card's own population. The scarcity here is more about the card itself, an Ultra Rare from a specific set and year, than about grading being a coin flip.

Where can you pull Underground Expedition?

This is where PackSpy actually earns its keep, since we track real pack openings across sites rather than just guessing. We have recorded Underground Expedition pulled 49 times so far, showing up on tilt-rips and courtyard, mostly out of Pokemon Dime Pack, Wildcard Basic Pack, and Dime Pack style openings. The biggest pull value we have logged for it sits at $13, which is a good reminder that most pulls do not land anywhere near the card's full market price. Ripping packs is a gamble, and the odds usually favor the house, so if you are chasing this specific card, buying a known raw or graded copy on the secondary market is often the more reliable route than hoping it falls out of a pack.
