The collector's take on Axew

Is Axew worth grading?

So is Axew worth grading? Let's talk it through honestly. A raw copy sits at $20, and a PSA 10 jumps all the way up to $236, which works out to about 11.8x the raw price. That is a genuinely big multiplier and it is easy to get excited about it. But here is the catch: gem mint is called gem mint because it is hard to hit. Edges, centering, and surface all have to line up perfectly, and illustration rares like this one often show print texture or whitening that keeps them out of that top grade. Add in grading fees, shipping, and the wait time, and a Grade 9 result at $25 barely covers your costs. If you already own a sharp-looking copy and you enjoy the process, grading can be worth the gamble. If you are buying specifically to grade, go in with your eyes open about the odds.

How rare is Axew?

Illustration rares as a category are already a step up in rarity from your standard pulls, and Black Bolt treats Axew with that same care, keeping it out of the common pull pile. We do not have official population numbers to lean on here, so take this as a general read: cards at this rarity tier are printed in smaller numbers relative to the set's commons and uncommons, which is part of why the raw price holds steady at $20 rather than dropping toward bulk territory. Scarcity at the top grades tends to matter even more than scarcity overall, since so few copies survive the packing, shipping, and years of handling in flawless shape, and that is exactly what pushes a PSA 10 so far above everything else.

Where can you pull Axew?

This is where PackSpy actually earns its keep, because we track real pulls across pack sites rather than just guessing at odds. Axew has been recorded 34 times so far, all of it coming out of courtyard, with the biggest recorded pull landing at $49. We have also seen it turn up inside the Pokémon Starter Pack, The Amazing Chase Encore, and the Wildcard Starter Pack, so if you are chasing this one specifically, those are the products where our data shows it actually showing up. Worth saying plainly: pack opening is gambling, and most rips do not beat what you paid in, so treat any pull as a bonus rather than a plan.

Questions people ask

How much is Axew worth?+

A raw or ungraded Axew from Black Bolt is currently valued at $20. That is the number most collectors will see day to day, since the vast majority of copies out there are ungraded.

Is Axew worth grading?+

It depends on the copy in your hand. The reward is real, since a PSA 10 sells for $236 against a $20 raw price, but a Grade 9 only reaches $25, so anything short of gem mint barely moves the needle after grading costs.

How much is a PSA 10 Axew worth?+

A PSA 10 Axew is valued at $236, which comes out to roughly 11.8x what the raw card sells for. That gap shows just how much a perfect grade matters for this particular illustration rare.
