Ivysaur has always been the quiet middle child of the Base Set starter line, sandwiched between Bulbasaur and Venusaur, but the 1st Edition #30 print has carved out a real following of its own. It comes from the original Base Set, the set that started the whole hobby, and that alone gives it staying power. If you are trying to pin down Ivysaur value right now, the short answer is that raw copies sit at $86, while a clean graded example can climb well past that.

The collector's take on Ivysaur

Is Ivysaur worth grading?

So is it worth grading your Ivysaur? A raw copy runs $86, and a PSA 10 sits at $326, which works out to about 3.8x the raw price if you land that gem mint grade. That sounds tempting, but pulling a true PSA 10 on a card this old is genuinely hard, centering and edge wear from decades of handling trip up a lot of submissions. Grading also costs money and time regardless of the outcome, so before you send one in, take an honest look at the corners and surface under good light. If it already looks rough, the safer move is often just selling or holding it raw rather than gambling on a grading fee.

How rare is Ivysaur?

Out of every Ivysaur 1st Edition #30 that has been sent in, 2,901 have come back with a grade attached, and only 349 of those made it all the way to PSA 10. That is a fairly small slice of an already limited pool, and it tells you gem mint copies are the exception, not the norm, for this card. When a population report looks like that, it usually means the top grade will keep commanding a real premium over raw and mid-grade copies simply because so few exist.

Where can you pull Ivysaur?

This is where PackSpy actually earns its keep, because we track real pulls across pack sites instead of just guessing at odds. Ivysaur 1st Edition has been pulled 200 or more times across collector-crypt, courtyard, mnstr, and tilt-rips, so it is not a card you should expect to never see. The biggest recorded pull came in at $425, and collectors have found it inside the Elite Pokémon Gacha Pack, Starter Pokémon Gacha Pack, Pokémon Starter Pack, Wildcard Basic Pack, and Pokémon Pro Pack. Just remember that pack opening is a gamble by nature, most rips do not cover their cost, so treat any pull as a nice bonus rather than the plan.

Questions people ask

How much is Ivysaur worth?+

A raw, ungraded Ivysaur 1st Edition #30 is valued at $86 right now. Graded copies are worth more, with a Grade 9 at $878 and a PSA 10 at $326, so the grade you land makes a real difference to the price.

Is Ivysaur worth grading?+

It can be, since a PSA 10 sits at roughly 3.8x the raw price of $86. But with only 349 PSA 10s out of 2,901 total graded copies, hitting that top grade is not guaranteed, so weigh the grading cost against your card's actual condition first.

Why is the Ivysaur 1st Edition #30 print worth more than the standard one?+

1st edition Base Set cards were printed in a smaller initial run before the wider release, which makes them scarcer and more sought after by collectors. That extra scarcity is a big part of why this print carries a stronger value than the standard version.
